First things first…let’s talk Saturday light snow. The system that was once modeled to be a strong system along the East Coast has diminished to a mere quick-moving clipper coming into the region from the west. We discussed earlier this week how this was a plausible scenario.

Here’s the upper pattern set up:

Expected snowfall with the weekend system looks minimal, but many will see some accumulation.

Looking deeper into next week’s threat, the players won’t even be on the field here until early next week. Note on Saturday the energy is southwest of Alaska. Takeaway here is that using operational models at this lead time will rarely lead to a successful forecast.

However, given that ensemble support for a storm is there, so it is something we will continue to monitor into the weekend. European ensemble data for next Thursday is shown below.
